Alien Soldier
In the year 2015 the planet Sierra is in the grips of Xi-Tiger's Scarlet terrorists. All hope now lies with Epsilon-Eagle, a fearsome warrior with a lethal arsenal. Armed with all the hardware you can carry, blast, shoot and burn through level after level of incredible cyber-action before confronting the mighty Xi-Tiger. Various weapons to pick up and loads of boss battles. Each boss has it's own weakness, which you must exploit. You can change forms to vary your attack pattern.
As soon as you press start Alien Soldier, you go to a screen where you can pick from six different types of weapons to help you on your quest. These weapons are: Buster Force (a standard blaster), Flame Force (a flamethrower), Sword Force (a powerful laser), Ranger Force (similar to the Spread Gun from Contra), Homing Force (a homing gun) and Lancer Force (an extremely powerful gun). You can take four of these with you; either four separate ones or a combination of any of them. You can even choose to take the same weapon up to four times. Each weapon has a limited supply of ammo. Ammo can be recharged by picking up an ammo box onscreen. Simply shoot the box with the weapon you want recharged and it will change to ammo for that weapon. On a similar note, full energy refills are found scattered throughout the levels as well.
At first the Alien Soldier game seems to be rather simple, and easy. You just run forward and shoot when you see an enemy. If you paid any attention to the controls at the beginning, you also no you can hover in the air, or even teleport. What you may not realize at first is that when you have full health, you teleport in a big ball of flame that does massive damage. Still, the game doesn't seem to be anything special. Then you make it to your first boss. It's a big snake creature, that barely does anything but bounce around the screen, and you can use the teleport technique to simply go through him unharmed.
Alien Soldier game starts off fairly easy, but as you progress through the game, you realize how misleading the beginning really was. After just a few levels, you're fighting bosses constantly, without much pause between, and they just keep getting bigger, and harder, and that's when the fun really begins. Sure the levels offer a nice distraction while playing the game, but the real meat comes from the amazing boss fights, that'll have you teleporting all over the place, while trying to get some shots in whenever you get the chance. Of course, if you don't like crazy action, and insane boss fights, you'd probably hate this, but then why would you be at all interested in a Treasure game?
The graphics is one word: beautiful. Treasure sure knows what they're doing when they make a Alien Soldier. Very good explosions and weapon effects. The enemies are well detailed, as is the main character. Bosses are huge, detailed, and the animation is done fairly well for their size. The main character is also interesting to look at, with his bird like features, and nifty armor. Backgrounds for the levels are done extremely well, with little details all over the place. In fact, the backgrounds are probably some of the best graphics in the game. Just look at the picture of the sewer level, and I think you'll agree that the background in that picture looks amazingly good for a Genesis game.
Alien Soldier is a side-scrolling shooter title, similar to Gunstar Heroes or Contra III: The Alien Wars. Alien Soldier is made by the same company that produced Gunstar Heroes (Treasure), and Alien Soldier is a worthy adversary to Gunstar Heroes. You play as a strange bird-like creature and you can select 4 weapons to use, each with their own different abilities and drawbacks. It's a fun game to play and if you like shooters, then you must play this game!
